I'm still here, but moved last weekend and between the packing, unpacking, painting, and no internet service I haven't had much time or the means to post. I'm almost settled in to the new house and will start betting the ponies again.

Hey trytry!!! Good to see you.

And for the others - HEY!

If the freaking weather here would stabilize a bit ,maybe the track would take on one consistent characteristic! lmao Warm & rainy or cold with blizzards! One night it is foggy with mud, then next you can't see for all the snow.
I am HOPING to grab a couple tonight and maybe a large part of tomorrow nights card for those interested in sharing ideas here.

Michael777 how the hell do they let Dan Kazmier attempt to make a living?

Where's Terry Tomlin? Dave Elliot? Pat Crowe? Gilles Gendron? Wright? Does Benny Webster ever show up to see his son Mark drive or train? Where's Dave Brown?

Your Michaigan tracks are famous for many races sitting indian file.

And why would anybody watch and wager on Lap Runnings when you have broadway shows to attend and enjoy?

dan kazmier was terrible, have'nt seen him in a long while, tomlin is still around, had one of the greatest trotters in michigan history years ago by the name of nilmont ernie, dave ellliot has been gone for decades, although when he was here he could load his horses with the best dope available, pat crowe, just think how good cam fella must have been, look how good that idiot did with him,one of the worst drivers of all time, dont remember gendron ever being here, wright,i assume you mean greg,he had some good horses, now just trains at the meadows,he was the youngest driver to win 1000 races,a friend of mine,by the way, dont think ben ever shows up here,i dont care for mark websters driving, never heard of dave brown?? doug brown, charlie brown from ohio, larry brown(the pistons coach

I will go on....

Michigan drivers - Larry Stalbaum, Brad Kramer, Aaron Merriman, John Moody, The Dokey's, Todd Buter, and my favorite Mark Webster.

In the 2000 Red Rose Final at Hazel Park, Mark took Lady Oliver (46-1) to hit the wire with Jenelle Mindale and Bunny Lake at the same time. Lady oliver won by a nose with the other two dead heating for place/show. Lady oliver (the 7 horse) paid $94.60 to win with the 7-3-8 tri paying $3404.20. I'm not sure what the 7-8-3 paid (something around $2600.00). That was a fantastic night for me, and I still will bet Mark Webster on long shots if I think the horse has a shot.

Michael777, it was Doug Brown.Wally's world Hennesey is anothe rgoat.Merrit Dokey has to be in a wheel chair by now.I use to be with Dave Elliot at the Meadowlands as a groom off and on.i was with one of guys that got banned in the sweep a few years back--Jordan Rubin.Have you ever seen this needle man show up in your backyard--Peter Brandstater (his sister is Kendra)?

When Willow Wiper retired, he was still in the barn just doing some walking.Leon was Dave's main groom.Dave's brother Steve is in New York still. He is a rude guy.I worked for some canadiens-----Dennis LaRochelle---sharp and honest and polite man.he knows the game.

The late 1970's thru the mid '80's was the time for this game. The game is done and old.Nobody under 40 is in the game or wagers on these favorites nite in and nite out.How about this fag, Dick Hogan?

you are so right, the 70's and 80's were great for harness racing,we even had good racing here at the old wolverine raceway, funny story about butch dokey, years ago (when i was just a kid) i stood at the fence as they post paraded and cursed dokey about his ride in the race before,he came back around and stopped his horse and growled at me by saying" what's a matter boy? lose you're $2?" he still is driving by the way, captain,do you know jake farber? he is a friend of mine,he used to own horses that elliot trained

Michael 777, sorry I did not get back to you, but I have been very busy with other things from the end of November. That name Jake Farber name rings a bell, but I truely can't place it over the years.
Back in 1979 or 1980, the meadowlands use to have a ALL-STAR cast of drivers on 10 horses 5 nites a week.
Walter Case jr down from Maine
Ray Remmen
James Dougherty
Mickey McNicol
Abe Stoulfus
Shelly (gou...spelling?) from California died in accident
Eddie Davis sr.
John Campbell
Mike Gagliardi
Benny "the whip" Webster
Doug Brown
Ron Waples (great man and driver)
Billy (dishwasher) Odonnell
Harold Story (saratoga shipper)
Tom (dangerous) Devitis ( dangerous off a claim,at the window, and driving--a crook that beat the game until one of his horses died off a claim)
How about George S. vs Tuff Stuff ?
the great one from out in the mid-west---Walter Paisley
Michel Lachance (he preety much stayed at Yonkers and Roosevelt raceways)
Doug Ackerman
Lucien Fontaine
Terry Tomlin (mr. claimer)
Merrit and Butch Dokey
Sonny Patterson
Sandy Levy ( when he shipped to the meadowlands from Yonkers)
Jack Parker jr. (brutal until he went down in a spill. He was never the same after the fall)
John Hogan ( the man would come down to get his winter money from New England like clockwork)
Herve Fillion
Later on the the Red Man rolled in when the game was going in the wrong direction--Carmine Abbettelo
Ron Pierce
Richie Silverman (jerry's son)
The Houghton's------!!!
How about a horse by the name of Doc's Fella? Lachances cadillac

The game today is not even half of what it was back then.

Michael if you did have simalcasting back when in Michigan, how about a monster closer called HAP LOBELL?

Today the game is for Gypsies! Not one harness trainer can take a family of 4 out to eat at a nice restaruant 3 times a month.
Burger King is their speed.

Just stumbled onto to this thread and man did you bring back memories.

Felt like I lived at the Meadowlands from 1978 thru early 80's.
Front row, Clubhouse, Row 206 or 207, Seats 1 thru 4 whether I was with someone or by myself.

Those were great days for Harness Racing.
From Niatross to Rambling Willie to the 1st Hambo.

Owned 2 horses as a young man back then. 1 at Freehold Raceway, Rossi Collins, did great as a 12,500 claimer until he was claimed. Saddest day of my Harness life.
Then bought Corintus, son of Niatross.
What an emotional horse he was. Wasted away over 25g on that one and my days as a 21 year old owning horses was over. Sold him for 3,500 and he did nothing.

How bout
CAM FELLA
AMBERCROMBIE
WHATA BARON
WILLOW WIPER

Gosh remember when Niatross set the record.
Standing room only. What a Horse.
He was my favorite.

Thanks for bringing the old times back.
Now live in Horse Country, with every big stable
around here in NJ in my backyard and never even follow or go to the track.

Maybe one day when I retire.

Happy New Year Gentlemen!

great memories,i bet niatross when he fell over the rail!! im still crying about it !!
